so we where all just purchased new Mac book pros for work laptops which is awesome but I really want to use my personal Apple ID so I can integrate my watch phone and other things. The one thing I am afraid of is if there is ever an issue and the laptop must be given back to IT for repairs or something. That area in our department blows things out of proportion so I wouldn’t want them having access to texts and so on. Is there a way to allow the use of the same Apple ID but a quick way to use your phone or website to remove the ability for them to see texts and so forth?

Hope this makes since.

Hi Altereddezignz,

I think that multiple user accounts could be a solution to your problem. Have one account for work -- this one uses the company assigned AppleID, another account is setup for your personal use -- and this one uses your personal AppleID. You may need admin privileges to accomplish what you require.

And what do you mean when you say "I wouldn't want them having access to texts and so on"? Any admin account, including the company's, can gain access to anything stored on your computer, so if you really don't want your IT department to have access to your personal information, then you will need to separately encrypt the files on the computer's SSD or store all of your personal information on an external SSD that you do not return to IT.

If they install a corporate profile onto your laptop then it’s possible that they can access these things without physical access to the device anyway. So think carefully what you want to sync on this company owned laptop. That said, I believe that you can remote erase things from iCloud.com. Or just have backups and wipe everything before giving the device to someone for repair then restore when you get it back.

It’s not so locked down. We have administrative rights. We use screen connect to remote in and help other employees when on job sites and they use sophos for virus and malware management.

Laptop has to be on for any screen connect to work and as far as I know Sophos is not for anytype if file remote management.

I mean it’s not like I am doing anything illegal just personal information. Or even a way to lock down those applications like mms, text, pictures and so on.

Just realize that IT does not have to do a Screen Share, which you might notice them doing, in order to gain access to your files. IT could also use remote logins and syncing, such as rsync and ssh, which would be much harder for you to detect. I still am not sure why you are worried about such things, but given your worries then I still believe that having multiple user accounts is a potential solution for you. If IT has admin privileges on your laptop, then all of your files are vulnerable to IT's access even if they are stored under a different user account. The only way around this is to store your personal files on an external SSD that you don't turn in to IT. But realize that when you are using your computer, even with a separate user account, IT could still login remotely and examine anything they want including your personal files on an attached external drive.
