as my iMac is in the spare room which is now a nursery is it possible to turn off the startup/welcome bong or chime or whatever noise it is ?

With that in mind, can you CHANGE the boot chime to something else? I have a really neat deep Buddhist "gong" sound I'd like to swap.

Why not just let it go to sleep, then you'll never get the wake up bong plus you dont have to wait for it to start when you need it.
