Quick jailbreaking question

Can you jailbreak a phone that is not activated? Or can you only jailbreak after it's been activated? I was given a 2G iPhone and want to jailbreak without setting it up with a calling plan. Thanks

Yes.
The jailbreak also activates the iphone. You dont have to do it before.
