I'm vetting ideas for a health related app and curious if anyone lifts weights and has a Apple Watch or lifts weights, has an Apple Watch and is looking for more use with it when working out.

Yes looking one for Crossfit and weights in general, it's seriously lacking in the watch

What would it measure for weight lifting? Just number of sets and weights used? Or would you need to see heart rate info and maybe let it count sets like a pedometer? I guess you'd need two watches for that if you were doing single arm lifting for both arms. Wouldn't be very useful for leg training though. So, I guess what you're after is a way to kick off an activity which records heart rate and you manually enter number of sets, what muscle group and weights later? And then a log of chest, arm and leg measurements at the end of the session.

I'm not a developer so I can't help you, just curious as to what such an app would need.

If I am too vague, it is because this would be a unique addition to the app store and no other app current does this for weight lifting.

In a very vague sense it would allow you to track your sets per muscle group and provide trends to measure how to optimize future workouts and meet your goals. Though I am really curious to whether there is a market for this on the Apple Watch.

Another issue is what you brought up about the watch being on one wrist — such any arm workouts may be annoying having to switch arms. To continue the apps use. Heart Rate could be something that is use as well.

Something akin to Stronglifts for Apple watch would be useful for me.

That's what I was thinking — well that and more.

I think what I am curious of is do people want something that can quantitatively in a unique way track their weight lifting with the goal of lifting more — or is lifting more not a "goal" for most?

I don't understand what you mean by a goal.
Every time I lift I have a number I'm trying to complete in terms of weight, reps, and number of sets. Velocity would be nice to know as well.

I lift weights 4-6 times per week and always use the Apple Watch with workout other as there is no other option that fits right. I also use fitness builder as my app and it allows me to start the app on my phone and then it works on my watch. Pretty solid but not perfect.

The problem with weight lifting and tracking the fitness aspect is that it can only track heart rate for activity level. I don't mind but I do wish it could do more.

Looking for a good weight lifting native app that also tracks heart rate and more.

Do you use Fitness Builder to step through different exercises as well — i.e. use the app plan out your workouts per muscle groups?

I ask because though I have a way to add a lot more to weight lifting, in such an app I feel I may need to meet the minimum expectation of other weight lifting apps (hundreds of exercises with graphics or videos on how to perform them).

I think a social lifting app might be kinda cool.
Like when someone does a 500 lb deadlift the app posts that number on the board, or maybe you see a moving average of the lift numbers while ur lifting to discourage/encourage you.

The app has a slew of free programs already setup for the basic version. However, I have always created my own workouts. I can import pictures if they don't have the exercise and than setup my own exercises.

I do prefer to create my own workouts and set the goals so that when I do the exercise, it already has my goal weights listed.

I don't mind downloading images from Google and adding but I know others want default pictures. I have never liked default programs that tell me what to do.

The perfect workout app would be similar to fitness builder but tied to the workout app as weightlifting and monitoring heart rate and rest periods to show heart change all the while adding to your goals for calories and exercise minutes without running the Apple Watch workout app separately.

Check out Fit Weightlifting. I've been using it since wOS 2 came out and I love it. I design my workouts (it even does week cycles if you're following a plan), add any exercise I want, and go. I track everything from my watch during the workout, and the app utilizes the HRM and fills the Activity rings. It can be buggy, but it has really made my watch the weightlifting tool I had hoped it would be - even in a Gen 1 product.

Another note: you can create any exercise you want. I don't know if you can upload pictures, but you can create anything and it will track your weights/volume/calculated 1RM over time.
