my girlfriend is going on a trip next week for 2 weeks, and she wants to backup all her photos from her iphone xr to her windows pc and delete the photos from her iphone, how can she move her photos off her iphone? and then evently put them back on her iphone?

thanks,

Quick question with a complicated answer.

Photos can be imported to a PC easily enough. The trick is “event[ual]ly put them back on her iphone.”

My recommendation, is turn on iCloud Photo Library & upgrade her iCloud storage.
would this work.

Do a fresh install on her XR, and not turn on photos sync.

But I am wondering with all the new photos that she will have taken on her trip will they sync to her current library when she turns on iCloud Photos sync?

I… suppose that could work, ASSUMING her existing photos are already synced to iCloud. But if that’s the case, photos shouldn’t be taking up all that much room on the phone. What is Photos usage in Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Photos, versus Settings > Her Name > iCloud > Manage Account Storage > Photos?

The former is space actually used on the phone, the latter is space used on iCloud. On my phone, I’m using 3.74GB of local storage, and 76.9GB on iCloud.

If she IS using iCloud Photos storage, then very very likely eliminating photos isn’t going to give her much extra space. What are the largest apps in Settings > General > iPhone Storage?
