Does anyone know of anywhere you can buy the smart keyboard online and get it shipped fairly soon? Everywhere I've looked is sold out. Apple's website says 1-2 weeks. Is that a trustworthy timeframe or are they shipping sooner than that?

I've always found Apple's timings to be impeccable.
you can expect time slippage, but usually only at beginning of product shipments as they're finding their feet. We've been here a couple of months now to settle down enough i think.

Verizon has it but it shows out of stock. I know sometimes their out of stock message still means they ship stuff out. Wonder if I'll get it sooner from Verizon?

Have you checked nearby Apple Stores recently? In my area (Atlanta) the stores seems to have regular stock of the keyboards. They do seem to sell out but are restocked a day or two later.

Check a physical Apple store. The Apple stores near me in Austin have them in stock.
I just don't have the time to even get into a store..I've been working a ton of hours and by the time I have time they are closed...
I called Verizon and they said "oh yeah its in stock". It shows out of stock, but once you get to checkout it shows "delivers by 1/15". I placed my order and was excited to get it. It felt weird that I didn't get any kind of confirmation so I called back and they said "the order didn't go through since it is out of stock".
Nice. So heads up to anyone who tries to order it and sees "delivers 1/15"...Their website is HIGHLY misleading.

What this guy said, I just ordered one yesterday, had it delivered today. also grabbed a pencil today, will be here tomorrow. So they 100% have it, i just checked again. It's 15.00 bucks for next day before 10:30, rarely do they make that time, I always do that, then call them, and they give me 10 bucks off, so i win 🙂

Stores around me, all over 2 hours away, and none have any keyboards or pencils available for pickup. Yesterday I checked at Best Buy about them and they did not have any, and told me that they did not have any in their warehouse, so if they ordered it would be a couple of weeks at best before you got one.
Based on this I would recommend that you call before you go, especially it you have to go any distance.

Keep checking Best Buy and Staples. Even several times per day. Out of the blue on a Sunday afternoon in December I scored a Keyboard (BestBuy) and Pencil (Staples) when I checked in on a whim. Almost had the Pencil from BB too but by the time I got to checkout it had sold out.
You could use my IF (IFTTT) recipe to check Best Buy online inventory and notify you via SMS or notification service if one becomes available. Delivery from Best Buy is usually 2 day.
