Did you store your key with Apple / set up security questions?

I don't. I don't want anybody having that password but me.

How long should it take on a rMBP 2015 using 200GB of 500 GB?

Probably an hour or so. My 2016 with 60GB of data took about 30 minutes.

So did you write it down or screenshot it? When would you technically need the passcode per se?

Nope... I just use a password that I remember. The only time you would need that is if you forgot your password and needed to get in to reset it.
