Quick Question Regarding New Mac

I'll be purchasing a new Mac soon in the future. Since my needs for photo and video software are of a professional level, I never touch iPhoto, iMovie, etc. etc.

What I would like to know is... when I buy a new Mac and I boot it up for the first time, is there a way I can customize install before I even reach the desktop? Or must I reinstall the OS via the Install CDs to customize it?

No. You're going to have to re-install Mac OS X (but I don't know why you would on a new computer).
