Quick Question. Updating 4.01 to 4.1

So before I use GP do I update to 4.1 in iTunes or do I have to d/l the file and click ctlrl + shift and locate the .ipsw? If I just update with iTunes does that mean that I do not have to restore? Sorry for the stupid question.
