whats that button actually do?

It illuminates the battery level LEDs. They are normally off.

The LEDs show how much of the battery is full. They are normally off all of the time, but when you hit the button they light up to show the battery charge.

Random note, but when you hit them they light up from left to right rather than all at once. It's kinda cool.
