Hi All,

Havn't been on here in a long time - recently dusted off my old PM G5 DC 2.3 and having a bit of a project (and a bit of fun) updating the TenFour's etc to see how useable it is in 2017, in fact been using it exclusively again for the past week.

Findings so far....

Browser - After updating TFF, LWK and Roccat and playing with lots of sites it looks like LWK will be my go-to but currently looking to tweak TFF over the weekend (thanks eyoungren for your excellent guides) as I'm a major FF fan on other platforms. Roccat is crashing non stop (v6.9) (will track down and delete it's plist files as well to see if i can make that stable).

iPhoto '09/Aperture - They are still better (for me) than anything on Windows or Linux which is either too complex for my needs or little more than a directory scraper.

Skype etc - Looking to make use of Fluid or TFFBox (I didn't know about that until last night and looking on this forum) to make 'apps' of web Skype, Telegram, Whatsapp etc if it's possible. If anyone has tried this with Skype in particular including using calling woudl be good to know.

Display - My old 23" ACD is in another room collecting dust so have hooked the PM up to my UHD 4k Samsung monitor shared with my PC which has spare HDMI ports, so using a DVI -> HDMI cable which seems to work (and look) fine at 1920 x 1080

Out of interest the spec is :

DC 2.3GHz PM G5
7800GTX 512Mb
16Gb RAM (had to reseat and jiggle a couple of sticks after it had been sitting for a few years for them all to be seen)
1 x OCZ Vertex SSD (startup disk)
1 x WD 2Tb 7200rpm

Software - Office 2008, Photoshop CS4, Acrobat 9pro, iLife Suite, lots of games - CoD 2, BF 1942 UT2004, Doom3, Quake 4, Amnesia:The Dark Decent, Halo, Knights of the Old Republic, Civ IV etc etc
Email - TenFourBird, 'Leopard Rebirth' theme pack (thanks! went on last night), Tunnelblick for PrivateInternetAccess OpenVPN, iStat etc etc.

My PC is dual boot Windows 10 (just for gaming) and Manjaro Deepin for everything else.

Look forward to getting back into the PPC world again :)

Glad to have another PPC user around :)

As regards whatsapp web it works good in both leopard webkit and Tenfourfox, so also Telegram should be fine.

As regards Skype sadly if you access it from the web you'll be only able to chat. Although there is a patched version which still works (but I don't use it for a while so I don't know), you can get it here: SKYPE LITE for POWER PC G3 G4 G5 - ONLY WORKING VERSION ...
It does work only for audio calls, video ones will not work.

Do you have Amnesia: The Dark Descent working on your G5? I have read on the web it had a lot of problems on powerpc machines. Even the demo won't open on my PowerMac. I guess that's because I have a PowerMac G4 MDD lol

Thanks for the info, much appreciated.
Yes Amnesia works well but have to lower the settings a bit.

If LWK is your choice, you may be interested in trying Demeter.

It's old, but it's the fastest webkit based browser they ever made (yeah, faster than Stainless and Sunrise).

Demeter 1.0.8

Many thanks will add it to the list.
