- Apple CEO Tim Cook visits Capitol Hill: Cook was spotted in the U.S. Capitol with senators Mark Warner (Democrat-Virginia) and Richard Burr (Republican-North Carolina). He reportedly had lunch with Warner.

I'm betting a lot of thumb twirling went on during that lunch. Meanwhile back at the ranch........

My guess would be a discussion about a move by some conservative members of congress advocating for mandated mobile phone software backdoors to thwart their security by law enforcement. Which would affect Apple and its customers.

Or...

A discussion about the recently announced trade tariffs, which could possibly affect Apple, and its customers.
[doublepost=1521004578][/doublepost]
Look, he could be making a difference behind the scenes.
It could be of a massive proportion too, but the customers dont see this directly, not without public exposure of what Tim has done.

See above.

or maybe an extension of the Patriot Act for another 4 years or Keg Parties.....who really knows? After all he is a "CEO". <snark> ;) Really not interested in "your" guess either way.

No worries. Though I suspect many people would be interested if the government someday required phone manufacturers to sell phones with backdoor software for easy access in the US - I know the Australian government is trying, as well. Or, if trade tariffs caused price increases of mobile phones.

Fair game but maybe a meeting with the State Dept would better serve Tim's concern if that be the case however not omitting MW's influence in telecom and cyber security.

As if there is no backdoor somewhere already and the whole FBI request from couple of months ago wasn't a Shakespeares Play. The one with a tragic ending. Much security ... ban Huawei phones or whatevs.

i would be perfectly fine if USA charged 20% import duty tax for foreign made products just like India has been doing for decades to encourage domestic manufacturing.

USA lost its factories and jobs and continues to lose.

Greedy management and ineffective politicians.

There are trade imbalances and currency manipulation that have been present for decades and somehow they continue to persist. I don't know why they weren't resolved sooner. I suspect it is a complex issue, such as foreign investment in US debt. Nothing is ever as simple as it seems, but it definitely should be corrected.

Please tell us what you mean by Apple going down.

Macbook Pro -> Don't Buy
Macbook Mini -> Don't Buy
iPad -> Don't Buy
iPad mini -> Don't Buy
iPhone SE -> Don't Buy
All other mayor devices except iPhone X and iMac Pro -> Caution

All new designs lack any chance of upgradability
Siri is a total disaster, HomePod without any chance against competition
Apple Watch no more than a toy
Only "innovation" in smartphone tech are ridiculously sizes phablets

Since Jobs Death, no serious innovation, only product I would call "cool" was Airpods.

Apple stopped listening to customers, specifically computer customers. Instead of offering solid serious hardware, they come out with some "gamechaning" device, which is utter crap. Renaming Apple Computers Inc to Apple Inc was the beginning of the end. On long term, companies like Google, Amazon etc will attack Apple on its core with their own Macs...

Steve would have never allowed this.

I wonder how often Steve visited DC, you know, given his position.

Steve Jobs was a close friend of the Clintons / Gores and other their Democrat party allies -- they came to him. I remember reading that Chelsea was even invited to stay at Jobs' home in Palo Alto.

This is all nonsense and your misguided opinion. What are you even talking about with the "don't buy" products you listed? That's completely your opinion. Jobs didn't even want a large screen iPhone, which is why iPhone wasn't nearly as successful under him.

Let me give you some actual facts:
  • Apple Watch is the best selling wearable in the world.
  • Apple produces THE industry leading mobile silicon, period.
  • Today, Apple sells 3X as many iPhone as peak Steve Jobs era.
  • Services has grown to the size of a Fortune 100 company and grows double digits every year.
  • Apple Music has 38M subscribers
  • Apple has 230M subscribers to their various paid services (Music, iCloud, etc)
  • Apple dominates the wearables market (Airpods, Watch, etc)
  • Apple stock is at or near all time highs (validates the strategy and the financials)
  • Apple just reported a 13% y/y increase in sales and profit, indicating consumers love the products and are willing to pay even more for them.
Now less fact, but opinions based on reality.
  • HomePod JUST came out and much like Watch, is being dismissed (mistake).
  • FaceID is proving to be very innovative and will do more than authenticate your phone. Android just showed in their S9 they are significant behind in 3D mapping and facial recognition. See how the copied emoji on Android are delayed?
  • iPad Pro is THE best iPad ever made.
  • Apple quite literally leads the industry...just watch Samsung and Android follow (Animoji, facial recognition, camera functions, ads, etc etc etc)
Cook has not done a good job, he's done a fantastic job.

Haha almost ALL of your points are based on industry growth rate. Ofcourse more iPhones sold now than 10 years ago, you serious?

Apple has bettered their first iPad with their current iPad Pro? Wow.. who knew advancements in technology would allow that haha

Did you even read my post? You dismissed all my other facts and completely misunderstood the iPhone point. Jobs died in late 2011 and shipped 72 million iPhones. In 2015, when the larger screens were released, Cook sold 231M.

Please show me smartphone data showing a 300%+ growth rate in a 4 year period.

Cook has taken iPhone success to he next level and done everything else you ignored.

Notice Samsung trying to catch up with FaceID? Maybe on the s10, eh?

Exactly my point, they came to him. He didn’t have time to go globe trotting every other day. Steve wasn’t your typical CEO though, I guess.

You want me to respond to each of your 10ish points individually? Haha youre kidding

Those years, there was incredible growth in the industry as a whole, with slowdowns in growth hitting first quarter of 2016. The smartphone market has slowed down massively in growth. This is only offset by the expeted number of users to increase by 300million between 2016 and 2021. That is all. More people on earth = more phones. Simple no?

None of this has to do with Cook specifically.
Apple has an aura around it, a Donkey at the helm of Apple could make Apple work with this general aura which was created by Jobs.

Thats how the ecosystem model works.

Jobs didn't even want a large screen iPhone, which is why iPhone wasn't nearly as successful under him.

Jobs did understand the concept of functional design versus uninspiring nonsense.Compared to other phone, the iPhone 1 was ahead of its time, a true genius product.

  • Apple Watch is the best selling wearable in the world.

Apple is the best selling wrist toy in the world

  • Apple produces THE industry leading mobile silicon, period.
  • Today, Apple sells 3X as many iPhone as peak Steve Jobs era

During Jobs period, iPhone had a market share of 100%, dropping to 70% with competition. Now It is at 30%, which is a total disaster. Android overtook, just like Windows 95 back in the PC era... the only reason for "growth" is, that more and more people on the whole planet want smartphones, not only Apple. Android growth is much faster

  • Services has grown to the size of a Fortune 100 company and grows double digits every year.
So does Facebook, which is good for absolutely nothing. So many companies overvalued, just the next bubble to explode
  • Apple Music has 38M subscribers
And it is still inferior to Spotify on all aspects

  • Apple has 230M subscribers to their various paid services (Music, iCloud, etc)

Thanks to the one and only Jobs, who startet this with iTunes, MobileMe, etc.

  • Apple dominates the wearables market (Airpods, Watch, etc)
  • Apple stock is at or near all time highs (validates the strategy and the financials)
  • Apple just reported a 13% y/y increase in sales and profit, indicating consumers love the products and are willing to

This bores me.... did I just connect Boredom with Apple? In fact, even Apple Stores nowadays are boring.

Now less fact, but opinions based on reality.

HomePod> Epic fail with Retard-Siri and ridiculous pricing
FaceID> Glad that I can now unlock my brothers phone, text his Ex-Girlfriends etc...
iPadPro> Sad knockoff of the Microsoft Surface. iPads with keyboards are inferior to notebooks like Macbook , MBAir, etc..
Animoji> Apple has the best Animojis, great! Tim, You nailed it!

Cook has not done a good job, he's done a fantastic job.

Cook is a great Accountant. For being a leader, he lacks vision.

Being the richest company in the world, Apple had so much potential. But with Apples failures, companies like Spotify, Netflix, Uber, Amazon and Google evolved.

Steve would never have allowed this.

Mac mini, 1246 days since last release. SERIOUSLY?

Everything you responded to was nonsense, your opinion, and mainly both.

Your market share data is not only wrong, but ignores the fact Android has flooded the market with garbage and Apple doesn't compete with 80% of Android phones. The active Apple devices grow every single year.

Facebook and Apple are completely different in terms of valuation and cash generation. Apple makes about $50B/yr in profit while FB makes around $15B.

Facebook is valued at $530B, so don't just dismiss it like it's nothing. It trades at 30 times earnings while Apple trades at only 15. These are hardly "overvalued" and Apple is decidedly undervalued, relative to the market. Or do you think AMZN trading at 300 times is a good value?

You have no clue what you're talking about, so I'm pretty much done.

No, just keep dismissing Cook and using hypotheticals that can't be proven. Nearly $1T valuation, most profitable company on earth, and all the leading stuff I mentioned. Cook has been FANTASTIC and shareholders agree. Results speak for themselves. Why couldn't Samsung grow their flagship models 3X since 2012?

I actually used facts from a Wired Article, but you seem to have some insider info soooo
