Quicken for Mac 2010 REVIEW ONLY

Just installed it and so far not liking it. In the transaction window I don't see a running balance like in older versions of Quicken. In 2006 I was able to download transactions from my bank and they were marked "cleared" in my register. I don't see this in Quicken Essentials. It is not intuitive and am having a hard time figuring out how to do anything I did with previous versions of Quicken. Unless things work better this thing is going back to Intuit :(

Right-click with your cursor over any of the column headers to see a list of column names that you can add (or remove). In this case, select "Reconcile" and "Balance" to add the info you're looking for.

I agree, this thing is NOT intuitive.

The problem I'm having is that neither the "On-Line Balance" nor today's current balance agree with what my bank says. Or with each other.

Thanks! You're right!
I got this information through an online chat with an Intuit rep as well. I figured out, myself that this (command clicking the columns for balance) works just in the account itself and not the overview. Since this is a different program and not an update or upgrade, I had to restrain from applying the old Quicken methods to Quicken Essentials. Once I was able to alienate (thought patterns) from Quicken 2006 and see this as a new program I did much better. I can see that Quicken Essentials may not be for everyone, especially those clinging to Quicken 2006 or 2007). Although, initially, I was ready to return it I think I'll keep it and learn more about how this program actually works. Already I'm becoming more adjusted to Essentials so will probably keep it

BTW, I had that same problem. I discovered that Quicken Essentials was entering some of my scheduled transactions before they actually occurred. After deleting those, my balance now correct. I'll have to look into how Quicken Essentials handles those upcoming scheduled transactions and adjust settings accordingly.

If some of you hate the new Quicken, then what are you using now? I hear that iBank is ok.

Both of your complaints can be addressed by adding the appropriate columns to the transaction window. Its all there - you just need to customize it.

Once you get used to it, its blazingly fast.

So I've been using this a few weeks now, and I have to say, I'm loving it more and more. Granted, I don't use the big features that are missing, but I've found it much easier to use. I like a lot of the little things, like being able to change info for multiple transactions at a time.

If I have a complaint, it's that I can't exclude certain categories from the Overview, and some of the reporting could stand to be a little more flexible. Oh, and the budget section sucks. But for what I need, this is really working well for me.
