I recently purchased a USB headset, and would like to sometimes have audio put through it instead of Line Out, but I have to go into the System Preferences every time I want to change it... has anyone found a quicker method of doing this? A Menuextra would be good (though I dislike using 3rd party ones due to them using hacks to work), a Dashboard widget would also be nice.

Hmm.... old thread is old.

I believe SoundSource worked quite nicely as a solution, though I no longer care (but perhaps someone else will :D).

SoundSource works great. But I change outputs a lot and I wanted a way to do it with one keyboard stroke. So, I used a Quicksilver trigger to launch this command-line utility.

Most people will be happy with SoundSource, but I expect there are a few people like me that to be able want to change sound outputs from the command-line.
