You are correct.

That is the one you will get if you are eligible. If you are not.. You will get a message saying we can offer you an early upgrade at a discount rate and your full upgrade date is XX/XX/XX. Or it will say you don't qualify for any discount, only no commitment price.

Exactly. That's the same screen I got...and I became eligible for upgrade last month (18 months since my 3G purchase).

so im eligible for the upgrade since I have had the 3G since launch day, but I have to pay the $18 upgrade fee, why is it waived for some people and not others?

--Not complaining, just curious

Curious too. Mine is waived. I posted in another thread about this, because it surprised me after dialing *639#. I was expecting the $18 fee as I had read all over this board (had not seen this thread).

How do they determine whose fee is waived?

Is there anyone who purchased the 3GS on it's launch day
eligible to upgrade to the 4G this year?

I just sent *639# on both my iPhone 3GS and found that only one can be upgraded for the 18 dollar fee.
How can it be, that 2 phones bought at the same time on launch day, not fall into the same criteria?

like this:

this is my message. Anyone know how much the discount will be?

guys what is the rule for the "normal upgrade" (the 199/299 price) and the "early upgrade 399/499 price"???

Cause like 2 years ago I bought a AT&T TILT, then on December 2008, I bought the iPhone 3G as early upgrade for $500, then when the 3GS Came out (like 7 months after i got the 3G) I went and Bought the 3GS with the same early Upgrade $500, but now it doesnt give me that option!! :( why? it has been like 8 or 9 months! I remember the AT&T Guy told me that I could do the early upgrade every 6 months...

My msg sais:
"You May Select Equipment at our Full Retail (OUCH) Pricing. A FULL DISCOUNT Upgrade may be available on 03/29/2011."

Can someone explain this.

I do *639# and I get the mesage:
"As a valued customer, we can offer you an upgrade with a new 2-yr commitment and waive the $18 upgrade fee"

If I log into my account at att.com I get:
"iPhone Upgrade
As a valued AT&T customer, we can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade with a new 2-year commitment and an $18 upgrade fee."

BTW looking at att.com at my wifes upgrade option and mine the terminology looks pretty straight forward.
Wife:
"iPhone Upgrade
As a valued AT&T customer, we can offer you a discounted iPhone upgrade at a higher price, along with a 2-year commitment and an $18 upgrade fee. Please proceed with the online upgrade process for pricing details. You may qualify for a full discount on a standard iPhone upgrade on 09/15/2010."

Anyone else seeing the discrepancy in pricing between att.com and *639#?

I got the 3GS at launch day and I'm eligible for the full upgrade with the $18 fee. I'm also registered through my university for AT&T which gives me a little discount every month and could explain why I'm fully eligible.

Early iPhone upgrade is $200 more than standard price. You should always be eligible for an early iPhone upgrade.
So it works like this... If you pay over $100MRC (monthly reoccurring charge) on a primary line you can upgrade after a year. If you are under $100 or a secondary line you must wait until the last 4 months of your contract to upgrade. If you do not fall under the last 4 months you must pay the extra $200 to move into a new iPhone.

what if I have 2 lines!?

My contract is 2 lines (me and my mom) we've been with AT&T since 2002? maybe earlier, and since i bough the iPhone 3G we use to pay like $120 +/- monthly after taxes and everything, but recently (like 3 monts ago) I eliminated the Road assistance on both lines and now we pay like $110 monthly, I think that before taxes is like 96-97, could it be because of that?

what If I add the Road assistance again, would I be elegible for the early upgrade?

my text notification says I should pay my bill...same thing I went through last year no biggie...I'll pay it on the 15th of this month, upgrade and continue to pay AT&T when I feel like it

No I'm sorry I don't think that will help. Did you do an early upgrade already? I believe you can only do that once a year.

I have 4 lines on my account,

3 lines say:

As a valued AT&T customer, you may be eligible for a standard upgrade on this line, with reduced equipment pricing when signing a 2-year commitment. Click 'Upgrade Eligibility' to view your upgrade options.

But they all show the same pricing when I go in to select phones

iPhone 3GS - 16GB Black - $149
iPhone 3GS - 32GB Black - $199

My question is will that last line be able to get the $199 price of the iPhone 4?

sure can , you have no life and are trying to look cool.
Wow, talk about a Debbie Downer, the guy's just trying to be funny, what crawled up your arse and died? who took the jelly out of your donut?

It looks like i'm screwed. 599/699 for me. Got 3GS last yrs with 399.

Yeah I have the same message. No iPhone 4 for me unless it drops down to $399. Some people say it takes 12 months. So I'm reserving judgement till June 19th/20th.
