There's a lot of cynicism on this board but from my personal experience it worked perfectly with a high degree of fidelity. And my library is varied all the way from ripped mainstream CDs to classical music compilations and even some rare dance studio mixes. I checked some 300 tracks replaced to higher bitrate tracks from Apple's servers and up to now, I have 100% fidelity. Maybe I got lucky. Maybe people are reciting their beta version experience of 6 months ago. I wish people would disclose their particulars so people reading these boards could make informed decisions. As of Dec 15th, the service appears perfect for MY needs.

Absolutely agree, signed up for it on Thursday night and it's working perfectly for me. Current upgrading 9000 out of 11500 songs to higher bitrate... :)

I wouldn't call it cynicism, I'd call it problems actually existing and people simply reporting them.

You said you have 1200 songs matched and replaced and checked 300 of them so far (is that checked through all the way to the end of every song?). Maybe the other 900 are all OK, maybe not, you'll have to take the time to listen to the rest all the way through. In the case of classical it may be tricky to verify that recordings and performances are the same, not sure the best way to do that.

Hi. I just subscribed to iTunes Match, and something very strange is happening.
Some unreleased songs that I had in my library, songs that are not in iTunes store, are being MATCHED and I am able to download the aac 256kbps from iTunes!!!!!

How can you explain this o_O??

Heh, i've got some matched songs that are not even available in itunes... Maybe it's a region thing? Mainly it's soundtracks from some games, maybe they are available from japan/elsewhere and itunes gets them this way.

I'd check very carefully that they are indeed the correct versions and be prepared to revert to your backups if not.

For example: I have a demo song, an unfinished version of the song Bad Romance by Lady Gaga. Of course it is not a released track, it is not available to buy.
However it is Matched on iTunes!

Is apple matching songs with uploaded Mp3 from other users????

Have you downloaded the matched version?

It may well have matched against the album version. And that is the version you'll get if you replace the file in your library.

I Have downloaded the Matched version from Apple and it also has the voice tag of the hacker who leaked the demo ages ago.

Apple is fooling all of us with iTunes Match, is what I think...

Fooling? Doubt it. Either someone decided to make that version an official one and include it in the match database (it does include songs that aren't on the iTunes store), or it was uploaded from your library, not matched.

How did you check to see if the file was matched or uploaded?

Two albums were misidentified in iTunes as the clean version.

Blink 182: Self titled
Box Car Racer: Self titled

i thought this might help for any upgraders who have these albums.

The status says Matched, not upload.
If I delete the song and download the one from iCloud it is the crap low quality demo that leaked on the internet ages ago.

how do conditional on PC?

still trying to figure out how to do the conditional on the smart playlist from a PC..can anyone help me with that?

(ie. this part: Any of the following are true: (to create this conditional, option-click on the plus button in the Smart Playlist window) iCloud status is Matched, iCloud status is Purchased. )

Well then it sounds to me like it's not that Apple is "fooling us" -- nor are you uncovering some hidden stash of not-for-sale tracks -- but rather there is a simple bug, where tracks uploaded to the cloud are incorrectly being labelled as "matched."

We have the same thing here, with the app store I cannot download any app over 20mb on my phone. But, can tether my phone and download GB's worth of updates, go figure

What's also strange is that we can download individual songs, one after the other, each weighing in at ~10MB apiece. So why are we restricted from downloading one single large (>20Mb) song file?

Either there's a bug in the status display (which wouldn't surprise me, I still have smart playlists that show the wrong files based on iCloud status, as well as sorting by status wrong), or someone decided that demo version was a legit track and included it in the Match database. Who knows, maybe they thought it might match to the legit version and they added the demo just to avoid that happening.

Restricted how? Songs that size should work, is it not working for you, what happens?

The first thing many iTunes Match users will want to do upon purchasing the service is to upgrade all their matched music to the 256Kbps.

This works great, but here are a couple of things to be aware of.

- I did a single CD that happened to be stored in mp3 format. After this process, of course, there is no mp3...it's apple's format (m4a).

- The single CD that I upgraded, WAS taking 58MB of disc space. After the upgrade...176MB! Yikes. Given that I have 10,430 songs that were matched, and having the lower bit rate, and using a similar ratio, my iTunes folder would consume an ADDITIONAL 72 GB is space. No problem, just be aware.

I never realized to just-now, when I'm playing matched music from the cloud, say on my iPhone -- when I'm traveling, I'm using a LOT of data, given the 256Kbps songs. Good thing I'm a hermit! :D

dude you should search and read, this has been covered.....relentlessly

If you are going to insult someone, at least include the answer to his question in your response, otherwise you are as guilty as he of clogging the forum with useless posts.

Also, it prevents this:

I was wondering the same thing he was. I have done some searching and haven't come up with anything. I'm obviously not a stalker, I mean super searcher like yourself. Could you kindly redirect me to what I need to know?

Another successful Match user.

14402 songs:
11861 matched/re-downloaded at higher quality
2534 uploaded
6 "waiting" (iTunes simply doesn't know what to do with these after 3 days)
1 missing

In my mind, that is a huge success and bargain at 24.99.

Does it take a while, because I have about 1400 songs, but they are mostly "ghetto songs" {as said by a friend of mine} that weren't from iTunes, and are probably not there.
