Well yeah, progressive download emulates streaming for on-demand content. But for live content, that is a no-go.

From the same doc.

"In each exporter, turn off streaming; iPhone does not stream media using RTP/RTSP"

yes it is possible to go to any webpage that have a properly formatted mp4 video and view it on the iphone. Same with mp3 audio files on web pages (maybe other audio formats). I am on http://www.ccmixter.org right now listening to mp3 files. I am in a wifi hotspot at the moment, so its very fast (1.2mbps).

For example, go to http://www.apple.com/trailers, click on one of the trailer images, then click on the blue play arrow to play the trailer on the ipod. I just watched the Sicko trailer, so I know that one works.

Are U guys saying it is now posible to have mpeg4 vids play on the net with a Iphone?

That is so koo, have been waiting days to learn that it is now possible. Are the load times really bad on longer Vids? What are the limits on this, are we looking at only 3-5 min clips or is buffering and the connection/ lower resolutions and size going to allow longer streaming Vids maybe 15min?

You don't have to wait for video to fully load. On wifi connections, they start playing instantly (2-3 sec to "buffer"). I've watched 15min videos without hicups or delay. Since the phone is doing a progressive download, not streaming, there might be a limit to the length of the video you can watch from a website. 15min video is all the iphone porn sites need :)

The videos I've been watching are high bitrate/quality. They work great on wifi. Edge is too slow for decent video IMHO. I just watched the Borne Ultimatum trailer (2:30 min), but it took 10min to download to the point I could watch the whole thing without pauses.

Who said anything about porn LOL, I could want to post 15min vids of my last vacation or something

I am really happy about this, few a few days ago I was wondering if they where going to welcome the web community or not. I guess this is working better than I thought, was worried I would have to offer “clips” and that that the kiss of death or something.

I guess this (Edge) is going to become the next biggest problem, I know everyone’s all about flash but personally I could care less to big and load times will be to much for the Iphone most of the time anyway. Besides Flash is not going to pay my rent :)

I guess we all need to vote for a nation wide free Wi Fi access next, and to tell the truth this will only speed that up. I am going to have to do some testing, I know their vid did not play good on Edge, but I wonder how bad I have to make the resolutions and how much I will have to cut them up to offer Edge Vids. We are going to have to see I guess, just really glad we are going to have the opportunity to find out what we can do with this new toy

Sorry to drag up this old thread, but I was playing around with an iPod Touch the other day and tried to load up a video on my website. To my surprise, it did not play (a gray play icon appears in the browser with a cross through it).

The video is H.264 encoded quicktime with AAC audio (progressive download flag set), exported from Final Cut Pro. The link is here:
http://www.vividmotion.net/jasonandkate/jasonandkate_highlight.mov

I don't own a Touch or iPhone to experiment with, so I was wondering if anyone can help figure out what the problem might be. According to the specs, that video should play. Thanks.

Hey zimagold,

I took a look and couldn't see anything wrong right off hand. Are you attempting to embed the video in HTML or just playing it straight from the URL?

Also, for those of you looking for porn - http://screwphone.com is launching soon. :)
