So this is super annoying.. I pretty much HATE Quicktime player, for any type of media.. It just sucks altogether and doesn't support that many video formats.. I use VLC Media Player for this reason, since it will pretty much play any type of audio or video file format you throw at it..

On multiple occasions, I've right clicked the audio or video file I want to play, clicked "Open With", found VLC Media Player in my Applications list, selected it, and then selected the "Always open with" // "Make this my default" or whatever the option is..

It's so annoying because for some reason, Quicktime will always end up coming back as the "Default" player.. Is there any way to fix this once and for all? I'd get rid of Quicktime altogether if that's an option, but wasn't sure if it was required for any other programs/software in OSX to work properly..

    Any suggestions? Thank you!

Try selecting the file, using Cmd+ I to get the Info pane, then select VLC as the player and choose the "Use this application to open all documents like this one" option.
