Hello all, new to the forum. Tried a search for this subject but couldn't find this specific issue. Gear: 2018 MBP i5 16/512 running Ventura 13.2.1 and QT 10.5. Briefly, I used QT to render a 4k 24p timelapse video from my own jpeg still image files (a star trails timelapse, approx 2500 stills). This method has worked well for me in the past, before Ventura, but this is the first render I've tried since upgrading. QT was able to render a 4k 24p video without issue in about 6 minutes. However, any attempt to export or save it was met with a permissions error:

"The file couldn't be saved because you don't have permission. To view or save permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose FIle>Get Info"

I assure you I am the owner and admin of the laptop. The problem being that while the video could play in the QT window, the program won't allow me to save it as a single video file. Therefore, I can't select it in Finder and thus can't change permissions on the file. It does this when I try to export instead of save as well. Even when I try to close the program, it prompts me to save the file, but then the permissions message pops up again. The only way to actually close QT is to delete the rendered file in the play window, thus losing the video file.

I've been on chat with Apple support with this, which escalated to a phone call, and after going through a few things it was recommended to re-install Ventura, which I did tonight. Once again, QT had no problem rendering the video, but I still cannot save or export the video file. The same permissions error message comes up every time. I'll be calling Apple Support again tomorrow, but I was wondering if anyone has also encountered this specific issue as well? It's normally an easy, free way to get a timelapse video without using other programs, but it perplexes me since at the moment there doesn't seem to be a way to save the rendered file in the first place. Some screen shots of the error messages:

I'm sure you already did this but what directory are your exporting to? Can you create a new file in that directory?

I guess you selected the images in the open panel. Don't do that. Sandboxed apps have a limited number of resources, they can have no more than ~2500 security scoped objects.
Instead put all them into a folder, and select the folder in the open panel, so QuickTime will ask to the system only the permission to open the folder, instead of asking permission for each file.

You're a lifesaver, maybe you should work for Apple support :) I had 2525 image files, so I deleted 30 of them from the beginning (images that really didn't matter, basically one second less on the finished timelapse video). When I selected Open Image Sequence in QT I just selected the folder, selected the resolution and frame rates, and the video rendered (as it was doing when I had over 2500 images). This time though I was able to save and export as per normal without any error messages.

I also tried opening all 2495 images in the open panel, and it still rendered, saved and exported without issues, so I guess an image count under 2500 is the key here. Too bad none of the Apple Support people picked up on this even though I told them what I was doing. Maybe I hadn't been escalated to the knowledgeable tech yet. Anyway, many thanks from another Tolkien fan ;)

Thanks for the reply, it seems the image count was the issue. After removing 30 images (bringing the count to under 2500), the rendered video file saved and exported without issue to my external ssd.

Just to make sure it's understood, if you select the folder there is no limitation to the number of the images.

Ok, good to know, thanks for clarifying. I'll try that with my next long timelapse.
