Quicktime player plays nothing

I have the latest QT player for Lion. I try to play Mpeg-4 or MP4 vids with no success it keeps telling me I need the MP4 plug in. It's there. I even downloaded Flip 4Mac to help it along. This player is a real bummer. Is there a better/best player out there. Be advised I already have Mplayer (another loser), VLC (not bad), and Realplayer (another loser). What do you Lion users have the best success with??😕

Maybe analyse the file via VideoSpec (I prefer that, though it hasn't been updated since 11/2009), MediaInfo Mac (10/2010) or MediaInfo (4/2011, there is a Mac OS X version to download, VideoSpec and MediaInfo Mac are using the same library as MediaInfo) and post the report here, as the .mp4 files you have might be using some strange audio or video codec, which seems unlikely.

Use VLC , Quick Time is a terrible media player.
