I just downloaded a video that's a .avi and when I try and play it in Quicktime I get the white screen but no picture but the sound is still working. Tried going under Window and seeing what codec it is but it says unknown though before that is says 552 x 226. I'm using a G4 AGP graphics system and this is the first time I've tried playing a video on it. I have Quicktime 7 and all.. Anyone have any ideas? Thank you!!!

California, off and on.
Another vote for VLC Player. I don't know what I'd do without it.

It'll also play other-region DVDs. (Like, if you are living in North America but you want to play a DVD from the UK, and your commercial DVD player won't play the disk—well, VLC Player will, and without you having to change any hardware settings on your Mac!) VLC is customizable, and will let you change the aspect ratio on your videos. (This is an issue with some videos you download off the internet—the dimensions are set wrong, so everyone looks too skinny.)

I can't say enough good things about VLC Player! :D
