is there a way i can set it so a certain file will play after another oen finishes?

Not that I know of, but VLC can have video playlists.

sounds like a task maybe for an Automator action?

it's pretty nifty... i'm sure it should be able to do something like that...

You can open them up in iTunes and do it there - I just imported 6 movies and it worked fine.

Create a new playlist and all the movies there, set to full screen (bottom right icon at the bottom left) and play.
