Quicktime volume at "Max" when initiated

Each time Quicktime opens up to play something, the volume on the QT player is at the max setting. Sometimes it catches me off-guard and scares the crap outta me.

Is there any way to change the default volume setting on QT so it opens up at a lower volume? I checked the "Preferences" but didnt see anything.

I don't think so. I've been searching for a solution to this since the day I bought my Mac 4 months ago.
