Hi guys,

I want to play xvid/divx WITH ac3 in Quicktime X, but every clip plays without sound. Can someone help? I want to get rid of VLC... i love the look of QTX.

xvid/divx is not the problem, its the sound... cant find a AC3 codec tho.

Cheers,

I have the same problem on my macbook. I tried installing DiVX for Mac and the video works but not the sound, however my dad did the same thing on his iMac and it works. No idea why the sound doesn't work for me, not even MP3 sound in an XviD encode works.

Edit: I researched a little and found perian: http://perian.org and now it works perfectly. Now i just gotta find how to play .mkv.

Edit 2: Mkv playback hack: http://www.boerngen-schmidt.de/en/2009/08/play-mkv-using-quicktime-x/ however quicktime X unlike VLC has problems with performance with 720 x.264, not to talk about 1080p.

AC3 and Quicktime

Hi everyone,

finally there is a solution to the AC3 and other Codec issues.
Just go to http://www.pure-mac.com/video.html
there one finds all kinds of codecs e.g AC3 (in the Perian Kit) and many more.

The AC3 codec commonly found in the web does no sound after installation. But installing the Perian tool (swiss army knife of Quicktime ;-)) does.

Just give this web-site a try as I have found all codes I ever wanted.
