Quicktime X conversion to Apple TV

Hi guys,

Has anyone tried converting their media to Apple TV format using the new Quicktime X in Snow Leopard?

I've just tried one file (1.8GB avi), and it took just under an hour! 😱

May I ask if you have used 3rd party plug-ins (Perian)?

Couple of things on that:
a) Is it then still 64 bits native?
b) Does QuickTime X use more all available Cores during recoding?
