my quicktime won't open my video files (mpeg)

Well, more info might help.

What version of Quicktime, what version of OS X? Which version of MPEG?

If it's MPEG-2, then you have to buy a playback componant from Apple.

All Flip4Mac is, is a plug-in for QuickTime to read windows media formats.

QuickTime player is not meant to be a direct competitor to Windows Media player on a PC - that's what iTunes is for.

QuickTime format itself is superior to Windows Media.
