personally id stay away from the "geek" "nerd" titles. they are so stupid and how can anyone take you seriously with such a title? we dont look at the guys in geek squad at best buy in a good light do we? so how about something that actually defines the business, something in the area of security, home, personal, computer, network etc. i dont have the time this morning to really think of a name but working something like a "homeland security" into something for someone's personal place of residence or business. Another though, maybe a "counter" computer threat idea. somehow I think you could work with those ideas and come up with a name that defines what you will be doing but is also respectable and catchy. good luck and congrats on making this move!

Congrats and good luck B2TM!

I like the Blue Screen Solutions

but others might be

Tech Solutions
PC Solutions

But where are you living these days? You could have something of a local flavor as well

Blue Sky Solutions
Southern Solutions
Swamp Tech Solutions :D

You need a logo?

Someone is going to pay you $30 to check for spyware? Damn, people aren't willing to learn, are they? And besides, if you showed them what programs to use and what buttons (erm....button) to press, they wouldn't need to pay you anymore, so nice job. :p

Anyway, I remember a long time ago when you used to work at an IBM + Apple reseller place that installed Linux preloaded onto Macs, and you tried to help me get a special deal on a Powerbook even though I lived in Canada (and you can't get by customs in Canada ;) ), so I'll just sit here and think up some company names for you even though I suck at this. :p

However, I'll make a suggestion: The name should clearly be one of a tech company, but only be low or moderately-low on the "geek scale."

Bleach Technology Solutions
BSOD No More
Bug Free Technology
Lemon Fresh Solutions
Beyond Doubt Solutions
Crystal Clear Solutions
Squeaky Clean Tech Solutions
Fresh Technology
Fresh Solutions Technology

and so forth. I'll come up with more later.

The thing about these services is that not every one has the time or interest in keeping things updated (I'm not one of them, please dont slay me  )
Thats what makes this venture so great!! I'd like to put a spin on one of your ideas...how about "Crystal Clear Computing"? This way you aren't alienating pc or mac users. I like the way it sounds..kinda catchy, huh?

Let me try the obvious. How about "BackToTheMac"?

Think about it - your initial slogan could be "Come Bac to the Mac" which both rides this renaissance that Apple is exprienceing, and is a nice, open invite to come to the store. Imagine customers and potential customers saying to each other:

"Hey, let's go to BackToTheMac and see if they got the new iPod."

or

"I need to go BackToTheMac and pick up my machine - it's in."

Selling Macs!! THAT WOULD ROCK. but that means you have to leave use :(

That only applies if you're working for Apple. There are still such things as independent retailers.

As for the $30/month deal, well, just goes to show how much more expensive PCs are compared to Macs....

how will you address the conflict of interests of selling/promoting computers that will kill your security/maintenance business?

out of curiosity, does your monthly subscription also include emergencies?

Well, they are going to run seperate of one another.

As for emergencies. I am going to give a get out of jail card where each month they can get one additional hour for emergencies.

Only one Hour?

Yea. The monthly service contract is to maintain a system. IE, once you join I will keep you secure. The idea is that you can't screw up anything once I have control of the system.
OK :p I was just thinking only one hour to fix an "emergency" didn't seem like a very long time - but I guess your better at this stuff than I am.

2. Use your name in the name of the company (e.g. Kiwi's Personal Computing Solutions)

that's something i see a lot of and by doing so, your name gets out there to further your venture and future ventures in the same or different fields

certainly a lot of lawyers, financial consultants, and accountants use their names in the name of their business

How about <your last name here> Technical Services, or <YLNH> Computer Services. It's technical, it's services, and it doesn't tie you down to any one thing (spyware, PC's, Macs, whatever). Admittedly, that works better for me than it might for you, because I've also had to do A/V work in addition to computer stuff, but still... <YLNH> Computer Services could work well.

Ok everyone, I am thinking that I am going to use Bluescreen solutions.

Just want to get your final approval of that.

-Backtothemac

That's excellent. Several entendres wrapped up in that.

Hat's off to you.

that's not too shabby. has the catchy acronym too. probably also a little broader, in a good way, than bluescreen solutions... and this way you won't get mixed up with the special effects guys. hah

I like Bluescreen Solutions better.

Might be easier to design a logo/masthead with Bluescreen Solutions than the cliche of SOS (floatation device, etc)

$30 a month! You are making a killing :)
