Hi

I have just bought a Dual 1GHZ G4 PowerMac from ebay. Is the model with the ATI Radeon 9000 fx card. I will be running it on a 22" Acer monitor which has an analogue native resolution of 1680x1050.

Will this card in my G4 be able to support this resolution with a DVI-VGA adapter?

Many thanks,

Matt

Nope, it only has the VGA connector. Im really praying that this will be supported with the latest catalyst and drivers from ati.

I don't see why you think you need new drivers. I have a 9000 Pro 64MB and right now I output to two 24" LCDs (1920x1200 each) with no problems. VGA can do 1920x1200 just fine. You won't have a problem running the 22" @ 1680x1050.

Will work perfectly

That's the exact same resolution as the 20" ACD I've been running with my Radeon 9000 in a Dual 867 G4 for years. It will handle things quite nicely.

I recently upgraded the card to the 9800 Pro to be ready for Core Animation and some 3D stuff, but I was never displeased with the 9000 at that resolution.

Thats excellent, thanks for all your help.

I come from a PC background, and with looking at the ATI site I just assumed I would need new drivers to support that resolution. You know how much of a pain in the ar*e it is to get hings working right on a PC.

Anyway, looking forward to hooking up the G4 now.

Thanks again!

ATi hasn't made Apple drivers in a long time.

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean for the Radeon 9000, I doubt they've updated them for awhile. But ATI does make drivers for their line of Mac video cards.

ATi hasn't offered an update version of its Mac OS X drivers in a long time.

ATi does cooperate with Apple to make drivers that come with OS X.
