The 3870 makes sense since it does seem to live happily next to its EFI compatible HD 2600XT when booted into OS X. You're almost there already. ;)

What do you mean by "live happily" ? did you get a display (grey screen, volume selector, rEFIt maybe ?) in EFI on this card ? This would mean that the 2600 firmware already handles the 3870, and only the Mac OS X driver needs to be updated ... Or did it simply "not crash" ?

I thought that barefeats said the 3870 (without flashing it) paired with the 2600XT would allow a boot into OS X with the 3870 in an unusable state. Both cards could be used while in Windows of course. I can't seem to find the post that confirms my statement.

Apologies but I haven't been posting much lately.

Okay, but if the 3870 is the much better choice for pro apps in Mac OS ... although noone used the card in Mac OS till now, right? ... what sense does it make to use it in Windows then? Wouldn't it be better to make a HD2600XT run in Mac OS while using a 9800GX2 in Windows ... which seems to be impossible for now (Barefeats).
