AppleInsider reports that electronics retailer RadioShack is set to make a splash this weekend with an advertising blitz promoting the iPhone's availability in 3,000 of its 4,500 U.S. stores, pushing the company past AT&T and Best Buy to become the second-largest provider of iPhone points-of-sale behind Wal-Mart.

According to the report, RadioShack has been rolling out iPhone availability to hundreds of stores each week this year following last November's announcement that it would begin carrying the device. And to coincide with the advertising push, which will see the iPhone featured on the front of RadioShack's newspaper circular, the company is also knocking a few dollars off the price of the device.
For its part in this, Radio Shack plans to promote the entire family of iPhones on the cover of its March 28 circular, at what it claims are the lowest prices ever offered for the touchscreen handset nationwide -- essentially $5 off MSRP across the board, or $95 for the 8GB iPhone 3G, $195 for the 16GB iPhone 3GS, and $295 for the 32GB iPhone 3GS.
Apple's prices for the iPhone come in at $99/$199/$299 with a two-year contract, while Wal-Mart offers only the iPhone 3GS models at $197/$297 price points and RadioShack appears to be ready to set the standard even slightly lower.

RadioShack will reportedly also be promoting its Trade-In Program as a means for customers to replace their existing mobile phones with iPhones at discounted prices. Finally, sources indicate that RadioShack associates may receive as much as $30 or more in commissions for selling an iPhone, twice that of most other handsets and thus providing motivation for sales staff to encourage potential customers to consider an iPhone.

I was going to wait till the summer's release of the new iPhone, but if Radio Shack can sell me a 3GS now for $4 off retail, I's gonna get me one now!

Plus I'd get the pleasure of actually going into a Radio Shack!

Wow! Good for Radio Shack. Nice to see something aggressive.

$5 is 5% off on the $99 phone. Which is more that you would get at Apple. If you factor in a possible trade-in rebate, somone might get the phone for half price

I'm not trading my 2g, it may be a collectible one day. I've got its box and all the wrappings and cords. Think about it, the first successful touch screen phone - hah, hah.

You can sell the 2G here in Austin for $200-$300 easy.... maybe more if you want to wait more than a day...

I've been thinking about that recently...if I can find one in good condition it may be worth buying. In 30 years having a 1st-gen iPhone will be just as important as owning an '84 Macintosh.

And if you're interested in dust, we have a quaint little piece from the 1980's, it's called a Dustbuster!

They didn't mention you need to do a 2 yr contract for the price point of $95!
Maybe it's just not a very clear article? I assume they mean w/ a contract

This is fine, but with a new iPhone to be expected just months away, who wants to buy an iPhone now? Those that want one probably already got one.

When the new iPhones are released this Summer... I'll be getting rid of my Verizon Blackberry (which appraised for $104 from the RS link).. and getting AT&T.. more of a NEED... I need the unlimited talk between AT&T.:D
:apple:

If I can combine phones i have I curently have my dads 2G iPhone 8GB been using that as a iPod and my current phone I'd get $115 off a 3GS. so that would be $180 for a brand new 32GB iPhone excellent deal for me.

Wow, Radiohead is selling iPhones now

Funny that RS cannot even do their math correctly hehe

It does seem very silly indeed to go to RS for a $4 savings :/

yes but if you are upgrading or Switching over trade in your phone and you could get a very good discount depending on the phone you have.

The only reason I go to Radioshack is because they're the only store that carry the Sony MDR-G45, and I've been using Sonys BTH headphones since middle school, and no other stores is carrying them that I know.

But I have yet to see anymore than 3 people in those stores.

I think this one one hell of a deal.

Let's say you want a new 3GS and currently have an 8GB iPhone 3G that you want to trade in. If you have the charger with it and it has minor scratches, then you can get back $141.00. Therefore, your only paying $56.00 for a brand new shiny iPhone 3GS 16GB which is the cheapest anywhere!
