I have an OWC ThunderBay 4 (thunderbolt 2 version) connected to 2018 Mac Mini. I have two WD Red 6TB drives in a RAID1 (mirror) arrangement using macos' built in software RAID.

Is there a program or anything to alert me when RAID is in a degraded state?

I use GeekTool for this. It just prints the output from Diskutil and updates every five minutes, right on the desktop.

Here is what I'm talking about:

the Geeklet runs the "date" command (so you know how fresh the output is) followed by "diskutil apple raid list". I have Geektool set to change the status light from green to red if the command fails for any reason (status feedback image). Then I set it to refresh every 300 seconds.

I recommend it for SoftRaid since Disk Utility is bugged and will show your array is degraded even when it isn’t. Diskutil is much more reliable output!
