so i bought this external HD, that is 1tb

http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16822204022

and its 2, 500gb hard drives. should i do a RAID 1 array on it? would tht mean if one drive failed, i could just swap it out with another 500gb hard drive, and all my data would be preserved and i woldnt lost anything? whereas with raid 0 (i think thats how it comes), if one drive fails, everything is gone

if this is correct, how would i go about doing a raid 1 on it? disk utility? thanks

RAID 1 is up to you. It will mirror to contents, but still doesn't cover you if the enclosure blows up and zaps both drives, so I wouldn't rely on it as a backup system. You can configure RAID in Disk Utility, just read the help file. I have no idea if that device will expose both physical drives in Disk Utility.
