    Enigmatic and controversial
    Always colorful
    And a little bit crazy

Was both good and bad for the NFL

@ProFootballHOF: @Raiders Al Davis has been to HOF podium record 10 times. As an enshrinee in 1992 & 9 times as a presenter.

@ESPNStatsInfo: Al Davis is only person in pro football to serve as personnel assistant, scout, asst. coach, head coach, GM, commissioner & team owner/CEO

WTF, he's only 68, not 82. Is that the best you could come up with?? :(

I just picked the next least-likeable NFL owner I could think of.

Dan Snyder is young enough to need the help of a runaway bus or a stray bullet, but I'd have him next on the list.

EDIT: Sorry if I sound overly harsh. Guys like this are why I don't watch the NFL.

Guys like Al Davis are the reason there is an NFL.

...and they're responsible for what it has become.

I won't celebrate his death, but the NFL has become intolerable to me over the last ten years. I stopped watching years ago, amid lawsuits against people for trying to give away Super Bowl tickets (the league objected to the use of the words "Super Bowl" in the promotion - the reason you now hear it called the Big Game instead), overdone pregame and halftime shows, ignorant rule changes, etc.

Between him and Wellington Mara they are why we have the NFL today. Al's problem is that he held control of the team too long.

As a die hard raider fan and apple fan, this week can't get any worse. I idolized both Al and Steve and still in shock that both are gone.

Long term, this may bea good thing for the team. Al was one of the big barriers to the raiders not getting anywhere on a new stadium. Now the team can move forward with looking at getting out of the dump known as the Oakland Coliseum

    RIP Al.

The QB must go down, and the QB must go down hard.
