Is anyone else having issues were raise to wake is very inconsistent

I tend to leave my phone in the shirt pocket and will pull it out and raise it to my face. On the iPhone 7 + this works hundred% of the time. On iPhone X this works 50% of the time

I am wondering if the hardware that controls this on my particular phone is not functioning properly

TIA

The hardware in question is accelerometer which can be calibrated from within the compass app. Check if this measurement is working fine on a plane surface.

Mine works fine, but I am picking up my phone from a desk or from my pant pocket, so not sure if that changed things from shirt pocket in your example.

Picking up from a flat surface or out of my pants pocket works better.

Taking it out of my shirt pocket I never had an issue with the iPhone 7 Plus but it is so inconsistent with the iPhone X

I am not sure whether calibrating accelerometer on the iPhone X works like on the other iPhones because tapping the Compass doesn’t bring up calibration screen
[doublepost=1510596048][/doublepost]I compared what appears to be the level function that you show in the picture above between my iPhone 7 Plus and the iPhone X and I get very different numbers on laying it on a flat surface.

The iPhone 7 Plus gives a -1 and my iPhone X gives -9

This was not a result of the camera bump Since they were both in a case. I used Spigen hybrid case

Yep so there you go. Your phones aren’t calibrated equally. Make that calibration movement on both of your phones and then compare.

Ps. On a flat surface both should read 0. -1 or +1 is acceptable but more than that means incorrect reading.

But I am not able to open up the calibration screen. Tapping in the compass doesn’t do it

I actually turned it off on my X as I found it too sensitive. It would basically turn on every time I moved the phone.

You could just tap thet screen I guess? Sincethat's a feature of iPhone X now...

Raise to wake I have never calibrated it at all but it needs an "arc" motion in order for "Raise to wake" to work

Thank you. I will give that a try

I have had an X for a week now and am also struggling with the raise to wake. On my old 7, maybe it was not 100% reliable but whenever I pressed the home button, it would unlock and open.

Now about 20% of the time, I have to wait a second, realize the raise to wake did not register, either touch the screen or move the phone in some circular motion to wake up the screen, then slide up to go to the home screen. Face ID seems to work good but the "raise to wake" is not reliable.

It is not "magical". I wonder if I am the only one having this issue. Doing the calibration trick toggle didn't make it any better, my compass shows zero degree whenever the phone is on a flat surface.

I'll go to an Apple store and play with other X's to make sure that mine is not just defective.

I haven’t really noticed, as I have switched almost completely over to using tap to wake. I love that feature.

But I’ll pay more attention to whether raise to wake is as sensitive as my 7 was.

Same problem here, sometimes I just find myself staring at a black screen... not the end of the world, but a bit annoying

This is a major pain that raise to wake is not working as well. This suggests to me that the accelerometer is not set up properly. I’ve tried all the things suggested.

The other thing I’m noticing is my cellular signal is definitely not as good on my iPhone X as my iPad mini two with AT&T

Mine reads -1 on a flat surface.

Same here. My tap and swipe up is almost one gesture now and before I even realize the phone scanned my face, I’m already looking at the lock screen. Smooth.

Hi, my iPhone X has similar issues, i tried the compass and on a flat surface is says 333°

Swipe left in the compass app to the "level" screen (will look like the screenshots above – two big circles). Put phone on flat surface and see if it says 0° / turns green, or some other value.
