Raised by Wolves- SciFi story, as Earth is being destroyed in a great religious war, two Androids from the Atheist faction are tasked with raising children from embryos on Kepler 22b while a slower bigger ship from the Sol faction arrives years after.

This story has huge potential but I am 4 episodes into season 1 and it is intriguing, but slow developing as much time is spent on relationships and background, consequential it feels like it is dragging. Part of this is because instead of the good ole days with 30episodes in a season they are almost halfway into Season 1.

I'm loving the series as well; currently 7 episodes into season 1.

I think the toughest acting jobs on this show are the 2 principal android characters, Mother and Father. The characters need to be relatable, and yet ever so slightly, eerily non-human. I think that in particular Amanda Collin, as Mother, pulls this off in spectacular fashion. She somehow manages to be nurturing and vaguely terrifying at the same time, and the effect is unsettling. I would not want to get on her wrong side. Nor would I want her to scream at me! ;)

With today’s short seasons, I’d prefer things to move along a bit faster. I find it very interesting that the child raised as an atheist is influence by the religious kids, and that the religion of SOL is not as solid as you might think among some of the followers, but that is the story of humans, isn’t it? :)

I tried -- i couldnt get into it -- should i try again ??
Hard to say. I find a lot of series take a while to really start to "click." I must confess that I really didn't get fully into Foundation until the last few episodes. Similarly, I stopped watching Yellowstone after the first episode; I found the characters deplorable. After a year of listening to my son rave about the series, I gave it another chance. I'm now nearly through the last season and am totally hooked on the show. And, in love with the characters!

RbW is a slow burn, for sure, and if you like really tight, fast-moving storylines with clear closure, this may not be for you. Each episode reveals a bit more information, like another piece of the puzzle, but I find that each revelation raises more questions than it answers. I suppose that this confusion and disorientation is intended to mimic the protagonists' states of mind as they grapple with surviving in a strange new world and slowly learn the truth about their own nature. I am absolutely fascinated, but I can easily see this won't be everyone's cup of tea.

I can’t say you should. My usual standard is that if the show does not grab me in 3 episodes I bail, but the most disagreeable I have dropped in a short as 15 Minutes. One interesting example of a show I disliked at first because it was slow developing but got pulled into it at the 5th episode, because there was something I liked about it, then I ended up loving it- Station Eleven. This was an expectations issue. I expected more action and less cerebral, but I adjusted.

Raised by Wolves is an interesting show based on religious conflict and the androids are intriguing especially Mother. Even though the telling of the story seems a little off, the element of a child raised as an atheist is spiritual, and the religious children, some of them rebel, two groups on a collision course keep me watching.

It seems to be that when there were longer seasons they were more suited to slow burn pacing. With these 8-10 episode seasons sometimes it almost seems like they are just trying to stretch out the story, but there are exceptions with a nice pace of action vs story.

I remember The Killing, (when seasons were longer on AMC) it kept me interest, but a lot of time spent talking past the point of I’ve got the picture.

Finished season one. Its got Sol, people hearing voices, ghosts, and fast littles shapes running around, and aliens manipulating everyone. This is good, but I don’t feel all that good about it. This feels like a alien planet, which is impressive. There are some outstanding mysterious and story elements at play, but I don’t have the feeling of being vested that I’d like to have. Some what of an issue with constant mood music, but I will continue into Season 2.

It’s a very weird show. You have a lot of boring episodes like this week but sometimes absolutely fantastic ones when you have that little kid android slicing and skinning everyone. So I don’t it feels the quality is unequal.
