I am sure you have heard the rumours before about certain travel sites and popular online retailers showing "unique" and unfavourable pricing if accessed via a device that identifies itself as Apple manufactured?

Well, I am certainly seeing this in the iOS Rakuten TV app. It appears to be the same for my wife on her account and me on mine respectively e.g. Films priced £3.45 (SD) on the Rakuten TV site show within the iOS app as £3.99 (SD), it is not a fluke for one item, it seems consistent. Also, if I rent the film via the site when logged into my account, I can then access it from the iOS app via my account bypassing the seemingly purposeful attempt to gouge iOS users.

Don't get me wrong, I am pretty impressed with the Rakuten TV service content, quality and flexibility (although it is a shame they still don't offer an app for the Amazon Fire TV Stick meaning I have to AirPlay it from my iPhone to my TV via a 3rd party app on my firestick). I will be contacting their support and asking them why I see the price difference and see what they have to say.

This happens to a lot of apps which have purchase options unfortunately. Therefore you also see that when you buy/subscribe to a service via a desktop/laptop that you pay less per movies/series or monthly subscription then if you bought it via the iOS App.
