RAM Configuration on Retina iMacs

I'm looking to buy a refurbished iMac Retina. How is the ram configured? Essentially I would like to save a few bucks by upgrading it myself but I don't know which configuration will arrive.

Say I order one with a 16GB RAM configuration. Is that 2x 8Gb RAM modules or 4x 4GB RAM modules?

If you order a current retina iMac it would come with 2 x 8GB sticks

I ordered mine with 8 gb and came with 2x4GB

The base 5K iMac comes with 2 x 4 GB

I added 16 GB to my Retina 5k iMac and I'm at 24 gigs. Eventually I'll take the original 4 out and add another 16 to go to 32.

Mine arrived with 2 x 4gb, upgraded to 4 x 4gb.

If you go through the new order process it says 8 GB is 2 @ 4, 16 Gb is 2 @ 8, 32 GB is 4 @ 8.
