Just got my new iMac with SSD and 12GBs RAM, and was surprised to see that I'm getting many Page Outs. About 250K (close to a gigabyte) in 24 hours.
This is no real problem, and anyway, I "knew" the culprit. Good old Aperture, surely!
Not this time.
Activity Monitor showed that about 1 GB of RAM was used by the System Preferences app. I had had this app open for a long time using various Preferences functions, but never actually closing the app. Remember, I'm in the process of setting this iMac up, so visiting Preferences is a frequent task, no point in shutting the app down is there?
Yes there is!!
I closed it and not just one gigabyte came back, but about 6.5 gigs!
