RAM for 2009 17inch macbook pro?

Is 8gb the maximum for the 2009 unibody style and what is a good brand?

8GB is the maximum. I used Corsair in mine.

just dropped some Crucial 8GB (2x4GB) into my same exact machine couple days ago. got it from newegg for cheap. working great so far

Awesome. Did you go with PC3 10600 or PC3 8500?

went with 8500 for mine

I used 10600 in mine. Either should work fine. I only went with the faster RAM because it was cheaper at Fry's.
