We just got an extra gig of ram, I put it in the iMac, but it sticks out like 1-2 mm more than the stick already in there. Is that a problem? Or is it just different to the one already in there.

You might want to make sure it seated properly.

When you hold the sticks of ram next to the old ones - are they different sizes?

As long as the cover can go back on - I don't see it being a problem.

Well, it is really awkward and I can't really get them out. I guess I will try to get them both out.

EDIT: Lol, I don't think I can get them out.

It's working and says 2 gb's ram. Not sure if it's any faster though, and still the same fps in WOW.

I know that the new iMacs come standard with 2GB. The minis that come with 1GB, with the same NVIDIA GeForce 9400M utilize 128MB for Video RAM. When they are upgraded to 2GB, they utilize 256MB of RAM for video. In that case I would expect to see frame rates improve.

In your situation, I doubt that the video card you have increases in memory usage when adding RAM. If that is true, then FPS may not increase when adding RAM.

I am sure that 2GB will be faster, in general, than 1GB. You will notice it as you open more applications or use applications that can utilize or require additional RAM. Before you upgraded, if memory was running low - OS X would use swap space on your HDD for memory - which is very slow. Now you have an additional 1GB of memory before this occurs, so you should see less utilization of swap, and better performance in general.

I did a Company of Heroes FPS test, used to get an average of about 28 fps I think, now it is 36, so definitely better.
