Hello,
just a quick questions for the electronics experts in here. I've recently purchased 2x1GB DDR1 PC-2700 333 MHZ off eBay from China because I want to upgrade a PowerBook G4. I got the modules yesterday and noticed that one appears to be damaged:

If my thinking is correct, the damaged/missing gold pin is pin 39 which should be a ground pin according to this document:

Source: https://datasheet.octopart.com/MT18VDDF12872HG-335D1-Micron-datasheet-15795.pdf – not the actual module/brand but it should be the same since manufacturers have to follow certain standards

I can only test the module in a couple of days since I do not have the PowerBook G4 with me right now. I'd like to ask you if you think the missing pin will be a problem. After my research I do not think that it will be an issue but I do not know if I interpreted everything right. Also what do you guys think? Should I open a case against the seller since the listing clearly shows modules with all pins intact? (second module has no missing pins).

Thanks!

Given that it’s a ground pin it shouldn’t be an issue. That said, you’re well within your rights to open a case with the seller if the pictures indeed showed it intact.

Thanks guys! I also was thinking that it wouldn't be a problem since the pins function is ground. I'll just test the module in a few days and if it is functional I don't see any reason for opening a case against the seller. At least I think that with the module I posted a picture of it isn't intentional since you can see some remains of the pin. I just hope they work since reordering from China would mean a lot of waiting again but I'm confident that I won't have to do it.

A couple of hings:
  • Review the listing to determine if the seller explicitly stated the picture(s) were of the actual item(s) or if they were merely representative of the item(s) you were purchasing.
  • If there is a problem I would recommend reaching out to the seller to provide them an opportunity to make it right. If they don't then you can open a case.
