RAM on Collector's Edition UMB

So, with new UMBP, i saw the RAM is now expandable up to 8 gigs. Seeing as how it is practically the same hardware as the UMB, is the UMB expandable to 8 gigs??? I believe officially, they were only supported to 4, but if 8 is possible, I would love to get 8. Any thoughts/concrete knowledge on this topic?

Wouldn't you have to buy collector's edition RAM?

Everything I have read says that all the 1st Gen Unibodies are stuck at 4. Some people are running MBP with 6, I do not know if this is possible in the "collector's edition".

Perhaps SL will allow the 1st Gen unibodies the ability to run with 8.

I hope so. Apple's site shows that it is officially 4 gigs max. Anyone try upping the RAM past that?

Haha. True, but I'm ok with it. It runs good for me, I just want to up the RAM for some performance boosts.
 
This thread is hillarious. So any discontinued Mac model is now a "Collector's Edition"? If that's the case I have lots of electronics that are "Collector's Editions". 😛

haha, it's just a joke. I think the reason people started calling it Collectors Edition was cause it only lasted 1 generation, for 7 months, before being rebranded. In all seriousness though, is the RAM expandable to 8 gigs??? This is a burning question that I must know the answer to.
 
I may be willing to trade my RARE 2.0 Collectors Edition for a new 17" MBP. I know I'm getting screwed over in the deal, but I'm feeling generous.
