I never thought twice about it, always simply ordered more RAM.

But Apple charges $200 for 8GB upgrade (from 4->8) while you can get the same 2x4GB for $50? Outrageous!

No kidding. This has been the case for years - Apple RAM is overpriced.

Yup, it's pretty ridiculous. And there's nothing special about the stuff Apple uses.

Never buy RAM directly from Apple. It would just be a waste of your precious money.
