I ordered mine just over a week ago; Komputerbay at $99 and Corsairs at $107.99. Grabbed the Corsairs, probably the same ram but more of the peace of mind in my opinion.

It uses what it has. Inactive RAM is useless RAM, so it puts it to use and doesn't free it until it needs to.

That's possibly the dumbest thing I've heard of. "There's resources here that we don't need to use but lets use them just to use them"

Brilliant.

It's only dumb if it's not what I said.

Free RAM is useless. Inactive RAM is waiting for one of two things:
1) the program is was originally used by to be reopened, in which case the information is already in RAM and the program loads very quickly, or
2) a new program to request access to that RAM, in which case it is immediately freed up.

Thus, having RAM be "used" as Inactive RAM is a significant efficiency enhancement. Freeing that RAM prematurely would only slow down reopening the program that had been using it, without any speed boost for anything else.

Next time you choose to claim someone said something dumb, don't.

This is where I lost it hahahahah. :apple::apple::apple:

OK, if you're so smart, how about actually offering up some factual information instead of just calling me dumb? You've yet to prove me wrong, while my position is reinforced by others on this site (not yet in this thread, but it should be easy enough for someone of your intelligence to find it).

Amazing.

I remember when 16GB RAM came out around a year ago for MBPs, the price was $1,600. Massive difference in price; Now 16GB is around 1/16 of the original price, and in a year too!

Hmmm...OWC RAM is $209 for 16 GB.

Haven't I read more than a few posts by people having problems with budget RAM? Or is Corsair relatively problem-free? After getting burned in the past I've always stuck with OWC RAM: it just works.

I always thought Corsair was pretty reputable. I've used it in a past computer with no problems, but then again, that's only just me. The reviews are pretty good so I'll go as far as to say that for the convenience of ordering on Amazon, it's worth it for me to take that small risk.

Just realized it was 209, not 109. THat's a huge difference, and definitely not worth it.

Actually, now this is only $89. http://bit.ly/IIsKoT

Damn that's cheap. Just out of curiosity, what's the worst that could happen with some bad budget RAM?

Decided I'm not gonna take the chance with the Komputerbay RAM based on some of the people's opinions here. Just waiting for the Corsair to drop below 100 bucks, only for the reason of waiting for the time I said I would. It's only got around 3 dollars more to go! :)

This seems like a pretty decent deal if you've been waiting to make the jump. I know everyone has their preference with memory, but for what it's worth for those waiting on corsair I've had problems with them. I just got new memory back from corsair after mine went bad in 5 months. It took about a week and a half after I shipped mine to get the replacement.

Also, Komputerbay is continually dropping in price: $79.99 at Amazon.

I'm using 16GB of Komputerbay and it seems to work pretty well for me. The only thing I've noticed is that I think my lappy is getting a little hotter and the battery life is not as good. Is this to be expected with 16GB RAM?

Nope, more RAM should not have any effect on heat that you could ever notice.

I just bought 16gb on Newegg for $79.99 shipped free. There's no point in upgrading to 8gb anymore, you may as well just put 16 in there while the thing is open.

Buy quality ram folks. Stick with name brands: Corsiar, Crucial, Patriot, Mushkin, etc. It's not much more than the off brands and will save you some headaches.

I really don't understand Apple's outrageous RAM and storage memory prices. They must make several folds of profit selling that crap.

Welcome to Business 101.

In order to increase margin, you combine products into one product and increase it more.

This is why Apple prefers to buy the Flash themselves and create their own board to apply onto their computer. By doing this, they remove all overhead cost that would be gain by other companies who make SSD enclosures.

So goes for the ram, by adding it directly to the board, they can make it so they control all the margins. There is a reason why Apple has the highest Margins. That's the reason why they make the most money. They don't care about volume as much as they care about Margin.

People often will diss a company for having such high margins, but when you find yourself in the same situation, most likely we would all do the same thing if conditions permitted. Maybe not to such a high degree, but hey, it works for Apple, ya know?
