Ram problem?

I had 84 gb left on my macbook when I had 1gb of ram
I installed 4gb today and now i only have 81 gb free
What happened?

I'm new to macs so I don't know how the OS X page file works, but in windows under the automatic settings it may match the page file size to your RAM amount. Check and see if that's what happened?

you can download a program to see where all of it went. i forget what it's called, search google for something like sizeit for mac
