Ram question for 2017 iMac

Can someone confirm or give insight regarding Ram.
I’m looking to purchase 2x 8gig = 16 Ram to add to my 2017 IMac. Buying 2 8gig sticks is cheaper than buying as a kit 2x8gig.
Crucial is telling me there is a difference and I should purchase the kit as opposed to just 2 sticks because the ram is matched during manufacturing. Is this true? And if so would it make a difference?

Yes it is true. If I look at the prices right now from crucial.com they are only off by 1 cent? You can add those two new DIMMs to your iMac existing RAM and have 24GB of RAM.

I added 2 x 16GB Crucial Ballistix to my 2017 iMac for a total of 40GB. I bought the Ballistix separately because it was a lot cheaper, not as a set. Yes, the sets are tested together but that is not a reason to believe that identical modules purchased separately will give you any problems at all. I ran Memtest86 for about 4 hours with no errors when I first took delivery and everything has been running perfectly for the past six months now.

My advice is to save your money if it is a considerable difference and get the individual sets.

I was able to get a good price match for the 16gig kit of 2 x8, so it worked out
