I'm getting an awesome 27" iMac Retina 4.0GHz for work, but i'm really not inclined to hand apple cash for their RAM. I'd rather order their 8GB and swap to 32GB, third party for 1/3 of the cost. Plus, my late 2011 13" MBP will accept the two 1600mhz RAM cards?

I know they may only run at 1333mhz, but does anyone see any issue in my recycling the new iMac ram into the 2011 MBP to upgrade it from 4 to 8 while I upgrade the iMac from 8 to 32?

Actually, 16GB upgrade pricing from Apple is pretty reasonable. It's also easier to upgrade to 32GB that way, since you can keep the 2x8GB that came with it and get another 2x8GB.

Getting 8GB means you've to use the 2x4GB that came with it elsewhere and buy another 4x8GB yourself.

The 2011 MBPs actually support 1600MHz well. My early-2011 15" runs 1600MHz 2x8GB sticks smoothly.
