For a couple bucks more, a lifetime warranty might be a better deal than 6 months from OWC on that Apple pull.
 
There is no rationale for buying RAM that doesn't have a lifetime warranty.
There is no performance benefit to buying 'Apple' RAM as compared with guaranteed-compatible third party RAM.
 
Lifetime Warranty = Necessary.
Chances are if the company doesn't offer it, don't buy it when it comes to ram.

Maxing out the Macintosh with Ram = Best.
I have had macs, for quite a while now. And for the best results, have found that the max ram is best, especially now with virtualization and other technologies. Besides, it eases my mind knowing it's 'complete'.
