Say I get an iMac today w/ 2 GB RAM, and in 2 yrs I want to upgrade to 4 GB.

Would I be able to buy the RAM, then get the apple store ppl to install it for me?? if so, how much would this cost? And if this can be done, would it still be under the applecare warranty after it's done?

why not just do it yourself? it's just one screw that opens the access door on the bottom of the iMac. Pop the RAM in, close the door. That's it.

oh its that easy huh :eek:haha alright i'll do it myself

another question though... I read this and it seems like only 3 GB can actually be used by the computer even though 4 can be installed physically.

So if its cheaper to do 1x1GB + 1 x2GB chip, should i do that? or is there any other benefit to 2x2 GB?

or actually... i'd only be ordering 1X2GB and replacing one of the 1 GB sticks in there to make 3 GB total.

how's that sound? is it inefficient to mix the "brands" of sticks?

the imac you'd buy today (refreshed yesterday) can take up to 4GB.

The non-Santa Rosa (white) iMac can take 4GB, but would be able to address only 3.3GB. All aluminum iMacs can take and address the full 4GB.
