Random lines on black screen after a fall... what happened?

    My dear mother dropped her MacBook (early Core Duo) hard on the floor, and now I've got to revive it. Only physical damage is that the hinge feels loose on the left side, however there is now no output on the screen other than random white lines on black. I think the backlight still lights. It appears to power on normally otherwise. Any idea what's broke? A cable, or logic board perhaps?

    Did you try to hook it up to an external monitor?

    I would, but unfortunately I have no mini DVI adapter and there's none available locally. Was hoping to figure out the issue before I ordered one. Thanks for the reply.
